A worthy lunch date with the partner-in-crime at Umi Omakase for their newly launched Himuka 7-course lunch menu priced at RM 133 nett. There are 2 sessions for the lunch menu - 1200pm and 1330pm, one may choose for the counter seats or private dining room.
The place was beautifully designed with wooden walls, feeling aesthetically zen.
We were told by the chef that this Himuka 7-course menu was launched about a week ago. This limited menu lasts for about one or two months or until the seasonal fish was no longer available for the course or maybe the rise for the price of ingredients.
The Himuka 7-course lunch menu includes an appetizer, tempura, chawan mushi, niku ryori (wagyu menchi, wagyu kushiyaki, shiitake truffle yaki), shokuji (bara chirashi), miso soup and dessert.
Appetizer: sweet corn, duck with miso, sweet fish (ayu), sweet potato and ankimo tofu.
Ankimo tofu
Sweet fish (Ayu)
Sweet potato
Tempura: Green eye fish, shishito and sweet potato.
Everything were battered lightly and fried to perfection crisp, paired perfectly with some yuzu salt.
This green eye fish was really delicate, sweet and yum.
Chawan mushi: Steamed egg custard.
The chawan mushi contains of grilled scallop, popping tobikko and edible chrysanthemum petals (in season now). However, we thought that it was lack of some savoury umaminess for the steamed egg custard. The portion was really huge too.
Thou, it was not the perfect silky chawan mushi compared to those that I had before.
Niku ryori: Wagyu menchi, wagyu kushiyaki and shiitake truffle yaki.
Japanese A5 Miyazaki Wagyu was used for both the kushiyaki and menchi. The kushiyaki skewer was so fatty, juicy and succulent. So good!
Wagyu menchi. It was to pair with the truffle mayo at the side. However, we found that the truffle mayo covered up the taste of the wagyu menchi. It did not complement each other well but the wagyu menchi was good at its own.
Shokuji: Bara chirashi don.
The fish used were premium fresh and sweet. It was really a good decent bowl of rice to fuel up the stomach.
Miso soup
Happy early birthday to me!
For me, it was a very worth and full lunch course menu especially it includes the Japanese A5 Miyazaki wagyu kushiyaki skewer and wagyu menchi as well as the bara chirashi don that served with premium fresh fish! We both were still very full even during dinner time.
